Sulfonamide and Trimethoprim Resistance

Category:

SKU: MulOneq-H870

Type: qPCR Kit, qPCR Pathogen Detection Kit, qRT-PCR Kit

Sulfonamide and trimethoprim antibiotics are often used in combination as trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX or SXT) for treatment of urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, and other bacterial diseases. Sulfonamide resistance emerges through mutations in dihydropteroate synthase (DHPS) and acquisition of genes encoding plasmid-mediated dihydropteroate synthase variants (sul genes). Trimethoprim resistance results from mutations in dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) and acquisition of trimethoprim resistance genes (dfrA variants)
