Trichomonas muris

Trichomonas muris (Tritrichomonas muris) is a flagellated protozoan that colonises the caecum and colon of mice, rats and hamsters. Infections are usually subclinical, but heavy parasite loads can alter the intestinal microbiota and immune responses and potentially interfere with experimental results. It is included in the parasitological health monitoring of laboratory rodent colonies.

The OneqPCR-realtime™ Trichomonas muris Kit is a ready-to-use assay for the specific detection of Trichomonas muris DNA by real-time PCR (qPCR). Specific primers and a FAM-labelled hydrolysis probe amplify the target, while an internal control detected in the HEX channel reveals possible PCR inhibition or extraction failure. Positive and negative controls are included, and results can be analysed qualitatively or quantitatively using a standard curve.
