Staphylococcus epidermidis is a conspicuous member of the human microbiome, widely present in healthy skin and, currently, an important pathogen involved in infections associated with health care. They are gram-positive coconuts arranged in groups. It is considered the causative agent of different clinical entities, including: In-hospital urinary tract infections, osteomyelitis, native valve endocarditis, bacteremia in immunosuppressed patients, endophthalmitis after eye surgery, medical device infections or foreign bodies.
