Multiplex Yersinia

Yersinia species represent important gram-negative bacterial pathogens causing serious human and animal infections worldwide with distinct epidemiological patterns and public health significance. Yersinia pestis causes plague, a severe systemic infection with high mortality if untreated, transmitted by fleas from infected rodent reservoirs. Y. enterocolitica causes yersiniosis, an acute gastroenteritis with fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, transmitted through contaminated food and water, particularly pork products. Y. pseudotuberculosis causes mesenteric lymphadenitis and systemic infection in humans and animals. These pathogens were historically responsible for major pandemics and continue to cause sporadic human cases and outbreaks in regions with inadequate food safety and sanitation.
