Members of a relatively new virus family, the astroviridae, human astroviruses are recognised as a  common cause of gastroenteritis in children, the elderly, and immunocompromised persons. The main symptoms are diarrhea, followed by nausea, vomiting, fever, malaise and abdominal pain.
