Respiratory viral infections caused by SARS-CoV-2, influenza A and B viruses, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) represent major global health threats with overlapping clinical presentations requiring rapid differential diagnosis. SARS-CoV-2 causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with highly variable severity from asymptomatic infection to severe pneumonia and death, affecting multiple organ systems. Influenza A and B viruses cause seasonal influenza outbreaks with respiratory and systemic symptoms, high mortality in vulnerable populations, and pandemic potential. RSV causes respiratory tract infection with particular severity in infants, young children, and elderly individuals, presenting with cough, bronchiolitis, and pneumonia.
