Epidermophyton floccosum is a filamentous fungus, belonging to the Ascomycota edge. You can live on different surfaces, on the ground, in fresh and salt water and months on skin scales at room temperature. This species is the only pathogen of the two species of the genus Epidermophyton. The fungus hosts are both human and animal, wild or domestic, in which it causes skin infections known as Tinea corporis (ringworm), Tinea cruris, Tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) and Tinea unguiüm (onychomycosis). It is spread by contact, in the case of humans, especially in showers and public toilets.
