Adenovirus F

Adenovirus F are non-enveloped, double-stranded DNA viruses belonging to the Adenoviridae family and are primarily associated with gastrointestinal infections in humans. Human adenovirus species F includes types 40 and 41, which are important causes of acute gastroenteritis, particularly in infants and young children. Infection is mainly transmitted through the fecal–oral route and can occur through contaminated food, water, surfaces, or close contact. Clinical manifestations commonly include watery diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and fever. Adenovirus F is a significant cause of viral gastroenteritis worldwide and may contribute to outbreaks in childcare and healthcare settings.
