Ebola virus is regarded as the prototype pathogen of viral haemorrhagic fever, causing severe disease and high case-fatality rates. Ebola virus and Marburg virus constitute the family Filoviridae in the order of Mononegavirales. Filoviruses are enveloped, non-segmented, negative-stranded RNA viruses of varying morphology. Ebola viruses are the causative agents of a severe form of viral haemorrhagic fever in man, designated Ebola haemorrhagic fever, and are endemic in regions of central Africa. Its characterized by initial fever and malaise followed by gastrointestinal symptoms, bleeding, shock, and multi-organ system failure.
