Scopulariopsis are common soil saprophytes and have been isolated from a wide variety of substrates. They are dermatomycotic molds and mainly have been associated with onychomycosis keratitis, otomycosis, invasive sinusitis, and prosthetic valve endocarditis. S. brevicaulis rarely has been reported as a cause of deep fungal infections. Invasive infections have been reported among immunocompromised patients (recipients of liver transplantation and patients with hematologic malignancies).
