Ciguatoxins are a class of toxic polycyclic polyethers found in fish that cause ciguatera acting as neurotoxins that affect voltage-gated sodium channels (NaV channels). This is a relative common fish poisoning contracted by ingesting seafood contaminated with ciguatoxins. This toxins are synthesised by species of single celled marine algae from the genus Gambierdiscus.
