The protozoan parasite Giardia duodenalis (Giardia lamblia) is one of the most commonly found intestinal pathogens in mammals, including humans causing giardiasis. Their life cycle alternates between a swimming trophozoite and an infective, resistant cyst. Giardia muris is transmitted by fecally excreted cysts and is one of the most common infection in mice.
