Citrobacter rodentium

Citrobacter rodentium is a Gram-negative enteric bacterium that naturally infects mice, causing transmissible murine colonic hyperplasia. Infection can lead to diarrhoea, weight loss and increased mortality, particularly in young animals and susceptible strains. Because it produces attaching and effacing lesions similar to those of human enteropathogenic and enterohaemorrhagic E. coli, it is also a widely used infection model, and it is included in the health monitoring of laboratory rodent colonies.

The OneqPCR-realtime™ Citrobacter rodentium Kit is a ready-to-use assay for the specific detection of Citrobacter rodentium DNA by real-time PCR (qPCR). Specific primers and a FAM-labelled hydrolysis probe amplify the target, while an internal control detected in the HEX channel reveals possible PCR inhibition or extraction failure. Positive and negative controls are included, and results can be analysed qualitatively or quantitatively using a standard curve.
