White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) is one of the most detrimental viruses and widely disseminated in shrimp, and infecting several species in both the wild and cultured shrimp and has a broad host range, including marine and freshwater crustaceans such as crabs and crayfish. WWSV has affected negatively the shrimp farming industry in more than 30 countries.
