Two distinct parvoviruses (CaPV1), are now known to infect dogs, the pathogenic CaPV-1, and the “canine minute virus” (CMV, CPV-1). The virus is transmitted by direct contact with infected dogs.Indirect transmission, eg, from fecal-contaminated fomites, is alsoan important source of infection. Infected dogs are often asympto-matic. Clinical disease may be triggered by stress (eg, boarding),and clinical signs may be exacerbated by concurrent infection with opportunistic enteric pathogens.
