Bovine viral diarrhea is a viral disease of cattle and other ruminants that is caused by the bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV). BVDV is one of the most significant viral diseases in cattle. It can result in poor reproductive performance, reduced milk yield, ill thrift and immunosuppression. Most BVDV infections are subclinical, but the clinical disease syndromes can be grouped into three categories: acute BVD, in utero infections, and diseases in persistently infected animals.
