Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) is a lentivirus that infects CD4+ T lymphocytes and causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). It is transmitted through sexual contact, blood and from mother to child, and is responsible for the vast majority of HIV infections worldwide. Molecular detection and quantification of HIV-1 RNA are essential for early diagnosis, viral load monitoring and assessment of the response to antiretroviral therapy.
The OneqPCR-realtime™ Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 Kit is a ready-to-use assay for the specific detection of Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 RNA by one-step real-time RT-PCR (qRT-PCR): reverse transcription and amplification take place in a single tube. Specific primers and a FAM-labelled hydrolysis probe amplify the target, while an internal control detected in the HEX channel reveals possible PCR inhibition or extraction failure. Positive and negative controls are included, and results can be analysed qualitatively or quantitatively using a standard curve.
