Yersinia spp.

The genus Yersinia includes Gram-negative bacteria that cause disease in humans and animals: Y. pestis, the agent of plague; Y. enterocolitica and Y. pseudotuberculosis, which cause gastrointestinal infections (yersiniosis); and Y. ruckeri, the agent of enteric redmouth disease in fish. Rodents are important reservoirs, and yersiniosis can affect laboratory animal colonies. Genus-level detection allows broad screening for Yersinia species.

The OneqPCR-realtime™ Yersinia spp. Kit is a ready-to-use assay for the specific detection of Yersinia spp. DNA by real-time PCR (qPCR). Specific primers and a FAM-labelled hydrolysis probe amplify the target, while an internal control detected in the HEX channel reveals possible PCR inhibition or extraction failure. Positive and negative controls are included, and results can be analysed qualitatively or quantitatively using a standard curve.
