It is an anthropophilic fungus, whose usual reservoir is man. It mainly infects humans and, occasionally, animals. It is transmitted from person to person by direct or indirect contact through fomites. It is a cosmopolitan mushroom, of worldwide distribution. It mainly affects the scalp causing tinea capitis (black dot). When washing the scalp, conidia that can cause ringworm corporis on the shoulders, neck, back, buttocks and feet drag. Occasionally it causes onychomycosis and tinea pedis. In general, the lesions are erythematous and scaly, little inflammatory, and include hair follicles.
