Theileriosis, caused by various intra erythrocytic protozoan parasites of the genus Theileria, is a tick – borne disease of domestic and wil animals. Theileria lestoquardi is the most important species in sheep and goats. The parasite causes malignant ovine theileriosis, which assumes acute, subacute or chronic forms causing high mortality rates among sheep. T. lestoquardi is transmitted by ticks of the family Ixodidae, particularly the species Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum.
