Sheep pox and goat pox are viral diseases of sheep and goats characterized by fever, generalizednodules or papules, vesicles (rarely), internal lesions (particularly in the lungs), and death. Both diseases are caused by strains of capripox virus -double stranded DNA viruses of the genus Capripox virus, (subfamily Chordopoxvirinae)-, all of which can infect goats and sheep.
