Scrub typhus caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi, is a severe febrile illness transmitted to humans by trombiculid mites, which normally feed on rodents. Scrub typhus is endemic in northern Japan, Southeast Asia, the western Pacific Islands, and eastern Australia, China, maritime areas and several parts of south-central Russia, India, and Sri Lanka.
