The Schmallenberg virus (SBV) is an enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus. It belongs to the Bunyaviridae family, within the Orthobunyavirusgenus. SBV outbreaks have been reported to the OIE as an emerging disease that affects ruminants. Manifestation of clinical signs varies by species: bovine adult s have shown a mild form of acute disease during the vector season and congenital malformations have affected more species of ruminants. Some cow farms and dairy sheep have also reported diarrhea.
