Bacterial kidney disease (BKD) is caused by Renibacterium salmoninarum, a coryne form, rod-shaped, Gram-positive. BKD occurs in North America, Japan, Western Europe and Chile. R. salmoninarum infections can buildup over a long period of time, with clinical disease with the strain of bacterium the salmon species infected environmental and holding conditions.
