Ralstonia spp

Ralstonia species represent a genus of gram-negative bacteria with important roles as plant pathogens, environmental organisms, and emerging human pathogens. Multiple Ralstonia species cause bacterial wilt disease in economically important crops including potato, tomato, eggplant, and pepper, as well as ornamental plants. R. solanacearum (formerly Pseudomonas solanacearum) represents the most economically significant species causing bacterial wilt disease with global distribution and devastating impact on agricultural production, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. Ralstonia species survive in soil and water, infecting plants through root damage and vascular colonization.
