Proventricular dilatation disease (PDD) is a severe lymphoplasmacytic ganglioneuritis of the gastrointestinal tract of psittacine birds that is frequently accompanied by encephalomyelitis. PDD in parrots is associated with a negative-strand RNA virus, designated avian bornavirus (ABV).
