Nucleospora salmonis is an intranuclear microsporidian parasite of marine and freshwater fish causes diseases mainly in salmonid species. Nucleospora-like parasites have also been described in nonsalmonid fish. N. salmonis is associated with chronic mortality in several salmonid fish species and may induce a disease characterized by anemia and severe lymphoblastosis accompanied by a leukemic-like state.
