Tenacibaculum species are gram-negative, filamentous bacteria causing tenacibaculosis, a serious disease in farmed fish worldwide with significant economic impact on aquaculture operations. Tenacibaculum dicentrarchi and T. maritimum represent the two major species affecting marine and brackish water fish including sea bass, sea bream, halibut, and other cultured species. Infected fish develop characteristic skin lesions, ulcerations, fin erosion, and systemic bacterial infection with high mortality rates, particularly during periods of environmental stress or poor water quality.
