Multiplex Pathogenic Vibrio

Vibrio species are gram-negative, curved rod-shaped bacteria found in marine and estuarine environments worldwide, with multiple species causing severe foodborne illness and wound infections in humans. Vibrio parahaemolyticus represents the leading bacterial cause of seafood-associated gastroenteritis in developed countries, causing acute diarrheal disease through consumption of raw or undercooked shellfish and seafood. Vibrio cholerae causes cholera, a severe diarrheal disease causing rapid dehydration and death if untreated, particularly in regions with poor sanitation. Vibrio vulnificus causes severe wound infections and primary septicemia in immunocompromised individuals, with high mortality rates.
