Bovine Mastitis pathogens can infect cows both during the dry period and when cows are lactating. It is important to identify and recognize the source of these infections, as approaches to control, prevention and treatment of the pathogen’s effects. The main bacterial species that cause mastitis in dairy cattle are Streptococcus uberis, Streptococcus agalactiae, Staphylococcus aureus, Mycoplasma spp and Escherichia coli, although more than 200 organisms have been identified as mastitis-causing pathogens.
