Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is a coronavirus causing acute upper respiratory tract infection in poultry, especially chickens. The virus causes coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge, reduced feed and water intake, and decreased egg production and quality in layer flocks. Multiple IBV serotypes and variants exist worldwide with different pathogenicity and vaccine coverage profiles. The virus spreads rapidly through respiratory secretions and remains a significant economic problem in commercial poultry operations.
