Infection with Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) can result in meningitis and other infections like pneumonia, epiglottitis, acute otitis media, septic arthritis, cellulitis, and bacteremia, primarily among infants and children. Hib disease is uncommon in individuals 5 years of age or older. Hib may be transmitted through contact with mucus or droplets from the nose and throat of an infected person.
