Francisella halioticida is a marine, facultative intracellular bacterium first described as the cause of mass mortality in farmed giant abalone (Haliotis gigantea) in Japan. Infected abalone lose their adhesive strength and die, with mortality above 80% reported in outbreaks. It has also been identified as a cause of adductor muscle lesions and high mortality in Yesso scallops, making it a relevant pathogen for mollusc aquaculture.
The OneqPCR-realtime™ Francisella halioticida Kit is a ready-to-use assay for the specific detection of Francisella halioticida DNA by real-time PCR (qPCR). Specific primers and a FAM-labelled hydrolysis probe amplify the target, while an internal control detected in the HEX channel reveals possible PCR inhibition or extraction failure. Positive and negative controls are included, and results can be analysed qualitatively or quantitatively using a standard curve.
