Feline Herpes Virus

Feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV-1) is an alphaherpesvirus and, together with feline calicivirus, the main cause of upper respiratory tract disease in cats (feline viral rhinotracheitis). It causes sneezing, nasal and ocular discharge, conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers. After recovery most cats remain latently infected and may shed the virus again under stress, which makes detection important in catteries, shelters and breeding facilities.
The OneqPCR-realtime™ Feline Herpes Virus Kit is a ready-to-use assay for the specific detection of Feline Herpes Virus DNA by real-time PCR (qPCR). Specific primers and a FAM-labelled hydrolysis probe amplify the target, while an internal control detected in the HEX channel reveals possible PCR inhibition or extraction failure. Positive and negative controls are included, and results can be analysed qualitatively or quantitatively using a standard curve.
