Ehrlichia canis are tick-borne rickettsial organisms. E. canis infection should be suspected in humans with fever, headache, malaise, myalgia, gastrointestinal symptoms, relative bradycardia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and a recent exposure to either dogs or ticks.
