Human enteric cytopathic orphan virus (ECHO) is a positive strand RNA enterovirus that infect man. This group of viruses in general is the cause of multiple opportunistic diseases in man, ranging from severe paralysis to meningoencephalitis, pleurodynia, myocarditis, hepatitis, skin and mucous lesions, respiratory and intestinal disorders, undifferentiated febrile disease and conjunctivitis.
