Columbid Herpes Virus

Columbid herpesvirus 1 (CoHV-1), also known as pigeon herpesvirus, is an alphaherpesvirus whose natural hosts are domestic and wild pigeons and doves. Adult pigeons are often asymptomatic carriers, while young birds may develop respiratory disease and hepatitis. Birds of prey such as owls, falcons and hawks can become infected by eating infected pigeons and develop a fatal inclusion body disease, with mortality approaching 100%.

The OneqPCR-realtime™ Columbid Herpes Virus Kit is a ready-to-use assay for the specific detection of Columbid Herpes Virus DNA by real-time PCR (qPCR). Specific primers and a FAM-labelled hydrolysis probe amplify the target, while an internal control detected in the HEX channel reveals possible PCR inhibition or extraction failure. Positive and negative controls are included, and results can be analysed qualitatively or quantitatively using a standard curve.
