Caprine herpesvirus–1 (CpHV-1), an alphaherpesvirus closely related to bovine herpesvirus, causes enteritis and generalized infections in neonatal kids. In adult goats, CpHV-1 can induce vulvovaginitis, balanoposthitis, respiratory disease, or abortion although most CpHV-1 infections are subclinical.
