Canine parvovirus type 2 (CaPV-2) is a highly contagious and serious disease caused by a virus that attacks the gastrointestinal tract of puppies, dogs, and wild canids. CaPV-2 is hardy, resistant to high heat or freezing temperatures.It will live on inanimate objects and can be brought into a home or yard on shoes, clothing, hands, visiting pets, or an automobile. CaPV-2 infection is characterized by severe vomiting and diarrhea, often containing blood. The dog will be lethargic and feverish, have abdominal pain, and may refuse to eat.
