Avian Schistosomes

Avian Schistosomes Kit constitutes a ready-to-use system for the detection of avian schistosomes by real-time PCR. Avian schistosomes are parasitic trematodes that infect aquatic and waterfowl birds as definitive hosts and are widely distributed in freshwater ecosystems. These parasites are of veterinary and environmental importance and are also responsible for cercarial dermatitis (“swimmer’s itch”) in humans following accidental skin penetration by free-swimming cercariae. The kit contains reagents and enzymes for the specific amplification of avian schistosome DNA targets and an Internal Control amplification system to identify possible PCR inhibition. The kit also includes a Positive Control PCR mix to ensure reliable assay performance.”
