Avian poxviruses are large DNA viruses, which were found worldwide in all species of poultry and in more than 200 species of birds. Avian poxviruses ni fections are associated with significant levels of morbidity and mortality in domestic and wild bird populations. The disease is characterized by proliferative lesions of the skin and diphtheric membranes of the respiratory tract, mouth and oesophagus.
