Avian Influenza B

Avian influenza B refers to infection with influenza B viruses detected in avian hosts. Influenza B viruses are enveloped, segmented, negative-sense single-stranded RNA viruses belonging to the Orthomyxoviridae family and are primarily associated with human seasonal influenza, although their detection in birds has also been reported. Molecular surveillance of influenza viruses in avian populations is important for monitoring viral circulation and identifying potential cross-species transmission. RT-PCR detection provides a rapid and specific method for identifying influenza B viral RNA in biological samples and can support veterinary surveillance, epidemiological investigations, and research into influenza virus distribution among avian populations.
