Human enterovirus 71 (EV71) is an important pathogen caused large outbreaks in Asian-Pacific region with severe neurological complications and may lead to death in young children. Human enterovirus 71 (EV71) is a group of genetically diverse viruses belonging to the genus Enterovirus species A, family Picornaviridae. Infection by EV71 is often asymptomatic, but may manifest as self-limiting disease with mild flu-like symptoms.
