Entamoeba histolytica is a cosmopolitan amoeba that parasites 10% of humanity, in all regions of the world, including polar areas. Entamoeba histolytica is an anaerobic protozoan with ameboid form. This amoeba is the causative agent of amebiasis, amebosis or amoebic dysentery in man and other mammals, such as primates, dogs, cats and pigs. Most infections that occur are asymptomatic, but when invasive infections occur, they have very serious consequences for the host. The habitat of Entamoeba histolytica is the wall and light of the colon, especially the blind, ascending and the rectosigmoid, where fecal stasis usually occurs.
