Infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) is the causative agent of infectious pancreatic necrosis disease in salminid fish. The virus has a worldwide distribution and has been shown to infect a wide range of salmonid species in fresh and in seawater. The mortality of an outbreak varies considerably, depending on the species, age, and physical condition of the fish, as well as the virulence of the viral strain.
