Babesiosis is a haemoparasitic disease with high economical losses in livestock industry worldwide. Ovine babesiosis, a haemoparasitic disease caused by Babesia ovis (Babes, 1892), is one of the most important sheep diseases in the Mediterranean zone, as well as in other infected areas infested by the vector tick Rhipicephalus bursa. The early diagnosis and successful therapy against Babesia sp. belong to the key steps of control and health management of livestock.
