Clostridium spiroforme is an anaerobic, spore-forming bacterium and the main cause of iota enterotoxaemia in rabbits. It produces an iota-like binary toxin that damages the intestinal mucosa, causing acute watery diarrhoea and rapid death, often triggered by weaning, dietary changes or antibiotic treatment. Its detection is relevant for commercial rabbitries and laboratory rabbit colonies.
The OneqPCR-realtime™ Clostridium spiroforme Kit is a ready-to-use assay for the specific detection of Clostridium spiroforme DNA by real-time PCR (qPCR). Specific primers and a FAM-labelled hydrolysis probe amplify the target, while an internal control detected in the HEX channel reveals possible PCR inhibition or extraction failure. Positive and negative controls are included, and results can be analysed qualitatively or quantitatively using a standard curve.
