Avian influenza M1 gene detection targets a conserved region of the matrix (M) gene of influenza A viruses, which infect a wide range of avian species and may also cause infections in mammals, including humans. The M1 protein plays an important role in viral structure, assembly, and replication. Molecular detection of the M gene is widely used for the screening and identification of influenza A viruses in clinical, veterinary, and surveillance samples. Detection of the M1 gene can support early identification of influenza A infection and further characterization of circulating strains.
