The major causative agent of localised aggressive periodontitis is Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans. This disease affects only certain teeth (incisors and premolars) and causes rapid loss of the alveolar bone of the jaw leading to tooth loss. This organism has also been known to cause infective endocarditis.
